Are you passionate about international trade and its impact on our world, the World Trade Organization (WTO) is looking for someone just like you to become part of its prestigious Young Trade Leaders Programme. The Young Trade Leaders Programme is designed to deepen your understanding of the WTO’s work and the complex world of international trade. As a Young Trade Leader, you will:
- Learn from the experts by gaining firsthand knowledge about the workings of the WTO.
- Express your thoughts through articles, blogs, podcasts, and social media on various trade-related topics.
- Receive specialized training with a one-day, in-person session at the WTO headquarters in Geneva.
- Engage with global leaders by contributing to or coordinating a session at the WTO Public Forum 2024.
- Access unique mentorship opportunities with advice and support from the WTO Secretariat.
- Lead initiatives in your home country with backing from the WTO.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, you should:
- Be aged 18 to 30 years old by the application deadline.
- Hold citizenship in a WTO member country.
- Have no current affiliations with the WTO or family members affiliated with the WTO.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English; additional knowledge of French or Spanish is a plus.
- Exhibit diplomacy and a readiness to engage with diverse perspectives.
- Commit to participating fully in the one-year programme from July 2024 to June 2025.
Application Process
To apply, send the following to YTL@wto.org by 5 July 2024 (23:59 CET), which include:
- Your CV: Keep it concise, no more than two pages.
- Introduction Video: A 2-3 minute clip where you introduce yourself, share your passion for trade, and describe the impact you hope to make.
- Written Piece: A 300-word max response to the question, “What does trade mean for you?”
Selection Process
After reviewing all applications, the WTO Secretariat will shortlist candidates for interviews in July 2024. While the position is voluntary and unpaid, selected leaders will receive a sponsored trip to Geneva for the WTO Public Forum in September 2024.
